The Steel Window
Refurbishment Specialists
ASWS is a family managed business now into its third generation and 50th year as a specialist steel window refurbishment and replacement company. The company has evolved continuously since 1960 and we are now a leading figure in the steel window industry.
A LOOK BACK AT OUR HISTORY
Last Few Years
ASWS has continued to expand since 1960, culminating in 2019 being the companies most productive and encompassing year to date. The year began with the appointment to undertake the full removal of the Heritage Copperlight Glass, Windows, Mullions and Fascias at Whiteleys Shopping Centre, ahead of the full refurbishment in the early 2020’s. We also continued our working relationship with ISG on numerous projects, including the full external façade repair works at ASOS 2 and the continual enabling support in Canary Wharf. We also renewed our working relationship with the Hackney Town Hall Client group, teaming up with Osbornes and Hawkins Brown at Plumstead Library, for the full refurbishment of the windows in the Grade II listed building. The end of 2019 saw our appointment as the Heritage Window Contractor at Battersea Power Station, after being involved with the project since the early 1990’s we were grateful to finally get on to site to begin works.
2010’s
Nearly 8 years ago the third generation of the family joined the business. This expansion has allowed ASWS to take on even larger and more prestigious projects, allowing us to become the Specialist Steel Window Refurbishment Company in the UK.
Part of our company ethos is the continual support and guidance we offer our clients, which invariably results in a successful conclusion to projects and a willingness for our clients to use our services whenever they have the requirement for a window contractor.
Our most recent projects have included our return to County Hall, Hackney Town Hall, Royal Households, Quadrant Arcade, 21 Glasshouse Street, Royal Academy of Arts, The Heals Building and the full refurbishment of BBC Bush House, home for many years to the BBC World Service.
2000's
By early 2000’s increasingly window packages contained a varying mix of window material types and specifications. With our experience and expertise ASWS were able to offer a complete window package.
In more recent years ASWS has continued to expand their areas of expertise, with our first project for export. In 2013 ASWS worked on projects liaising directly with Aspire Katar Hospitality on Aspire Park in Doha, Qatar.
In the 90's
We found that employing direct labour to carry out all the work processes including decoration proved most successful. Our site team became specialists in their own fields, achieving extremely high standards.
With this evolution, during the 1990’s the style of contracts being undertaken began to change dramatically.
Our specialised area of work became prestigious heritage landmark buildings including County Hall, Unilever House, Victoria House, Block W5 Regent Street and Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel.
In a slight deviation from steel, we also carried out the replacement of aluminium windows at 38 St Mary Axe and St. Catherine’s House and replacement timber sash windows at 70 Chancery Lane and 1-5 Poland Street.
In the 80's
Since the mid 1980’s, after the former proprietor decided to retire from the business, with the current management team taking over, the company began to grow considerably and moved into a more specialised field; that of replacement, refurbishment and redecoration of steel windows encompassing a complete site package.
In the late 1980’s we were pleased to join the Steel Window Association as an associated member, allowing us to work with our colleagues in the industry to improve our products and services.
